    IMPOSSIBLE BUT TRUE

    7:00 pm-9:00 pm
    Apr/Mon/2018
818 Franklin Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11225, USA

Dan Furman’s “Impossible But True” is an immersive musical staged at Franklin 820,
a local bar in the Crown Heights area of Brooklyn. The bar is one short block from the
Franklin Ave stop of the 2,3,4 and 5 lines—about 20-25 minutes from Union Square on
the express (4 or 5) trains. There are two more shows: Monday, May 14 at 7pm and
Monday, May 21 at 7pm. The production is free and last 2 hours.

Loosely based on the story of Rip Van Winkle, it is a show about believing (or not believing) in possibility.
It follows Rip—an idle storyteller and dreamer—as he goes off to fight in the Revolutionary
War and then cannot find his way home. The music is tuneful and the show is family-friendly
    and humorous.

Impossible but True (in a tavern) features: Rob Langeder* (Rip), Danielle Erin Rhodes* (Rebecca)
Jerome Harmann-Hardeman* (Vedder/Hudson/Gansevoort), + Abigail Clyne, Charles Ouda, James Scheider*,
Julia Kess, Liesel Lotte, Mark Montague* & Stephanie Lynn Mason*. This production is an Equity Approved
Showcase. (* denotes members of Actors Equity Association)

Come share an irreverent evening of songs by Fran Landesman, self-proclaimed “poet laureate of lovers and losers,” the Dorothy Parker of jazz lyrics, best remembered for The Nervous Set, the world’s only beatnik musical, which flopped on Broadway, but two numbers “All the Sad Young Men” and “Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most” survived to become jazz standards. The evening includes collaborations with Tommy Wolf, Alec Wilder, Bob Dorough, Roy Kral, Simon Wallace and Richard Rodney Bennett.

“Full of salt and vinegar…with the intensity and tough humor of someone who might have lived on the bohemian fringe in the late ’40s and ’50s, when the word ‘hip’ meant something.”

    Stephen Holden, New York Times

“Mary Foster Conklin proved to be the perfect choice to present the writer and her work to 21st century audiences. In addition to showcasing Conklin’s long-recognized mastery of the jazz vocal idiom, this show was so smart, so sophisticated, and so assured that it was a total pleasure.”
