    Singer/Songwriter Amanda McBroom
    Returns to Birdland
    With “My Favorite Things”
    Monday, September 10 at 7:30pm

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that singer/songwriter Amanda McBroom will return to the historic stage with “My Favorite Things” on Monday, September 10 at 7:30pm.

Amanda Mc Broom will bring an evening of musical inspiration and favorite things to Birdland, with words and music from the likes of Annie LaMott, Stephen Sondheim, Fran Landesman, Cole Porter, Jacques Brel, Michele Brourman, and, of course, McBroom herself. The evening promises to be one to calm the jitters, raise the hackles, and hopefully heal the heart.

Amanda McBroom has been called “…the greatest cabaret performer of her generation, an urban poet who writes like an angel and has a voice to match.” Her name first came to the attention of the music public when Bette Midler’s version of Amanda’s song “The Rose” hit number one world-wide in 1979. Her songs have been recorded by Leanne Rhymes, Jack Black and Amy Poehler, The Manhattan Transfer, Anne Murray, Barry Manilow, Judy Collins, Barbara Cook, Nana Mouskouri, Curt Cobain, Donny Osmond, Westlife, and Eminem, to name a few.

Her latest CD, “Voices,” was released in May of 2017, featuring a truly historical duet of her song, “The Rose” with country legend Vince Gill. True to her roots of growing up in Hollywood in the era of musicals, (her father was film star David Bruce) and her experiences on Broadway (in Seesaw) and off Broadway (Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris), Amanda wrote her own musical Heartbeats, which has been produced throughout the country at such theaters as The Old Globe Theater in San Diego, the Goodspeed Opera House in Connecticut, the Cleveland Playhouse, the Pasadena Playhouse, and the Sacramento Music Circus. Her one-woman musical, A Woman of Will, starring Amanda, had it’s world premiere at the Rubicon Theater in Ventura, and its off-Broadway debut in October 2005. Her latest theatrical endeavor has been as lyricist for the musical Dangerous Beauty, which had its world premiere at the Pasadena Playhouse in 2011.

    ERIC COMSTOCK

“Smart, suave & utterly delightful … an ingenious musical wit … a dispenser of cabaret caviar.” – The New York Times

“Erudite … an icon in the making.” – The New Yorker

Hailed as “the truest heir to Bobby Short” in The New York Times, pianist/singer Eric Comstock returns to Birdland with star bassist/composer Sean Smith with songs by everyone from George Gershwin to George Harrison. These two masters met on the Off-Broadway hit OUR SINATRA (which Eric co-wrote), and have since worked separately and together around the world. Joining them at Birdland for a summer Saturday supper is a party where the music and stories are equally great.

Eric Comstock is as entertaining as he is musically savvy, and an acknowledged champion of the pop, jazz & saloon songbooks. He has performed and recorded with some of the world’s finest musicians, including Andy Bey, Frank Wess, Peter Washington, Wycliffe Gordon, Matt Wilson, Ken Peplowski and Harry Allen. His most recent CD is “bitter/sweet”, on which he appears with star guitarist Randy Napoleon. As a performer/commentator, he has appeared on PBS, CNN, BBC and Radio France.

Sean Smith has been an integral part of the international jazz scene for over 25 years, and has performed with Gerry Mulligan, Phil Woods, Benny Carter, Art Farmer, Flip Phillips, Clark Terry and many others. Also, a prolific composer, his works have been played and recorded by Phil Woods, Mark Murphy, Bill Charlap, Gene Bertoncini, Leon Parker and Bill Mays. His music has also been featured in several films.
