Mary Foster Conklin: Mirrors Revisited An Evening of Dark Art Songs by Leiber & Stoller

    7:00 pm-8:30 pm
    Mar/Fri/2020
178 2nd Ave, New York, NY 10003, USA

Mary Foster Conklin: Mirrors Revisited An Evening of Dark Art Songs by Leiber & Stoller

    John diMartino – piano
    Yoshi Waki – bass
    Vince Cherico – drums
    Sara Caswell – violin

To celebrate Peggy Lee’s centennial and Women’s History Month, Mary Foster Conklin presents a special encore performance of MIRRORS REVISITED  an evening of music by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, whose legendary rock and roll hits overshadowed a unique catalogue of dark art songs, first recorded by Ms. Lee on her 1975 MIRRORS album after winning the Grammy for Is That All There Is?

Vocalist and radio host Mary Foster Conklin is an old school song hound and a master storyteller. A multi-Bistro and MAC award winner, Mary has performed throughout the United States and Canada and currently hosts a weekly radio show on WFDU-FM HD2 called A Broad Spectrum which highlights women composers and lyricists  now in its fifth year.  Her latest CD, PHOTOGRAPHS, a memory piece of standards and contemporary tunes, was released in 2016 to critical acclaim.  She is thrilled to revive this show to celebrate the artistry of Peggy Lee.  www.maryfosterconklin.com

“A one woman show sung with boldness and imagination.” (Washington Post),

“A hip, transcendental hour Conklin never tried to mimic Lee vocally, yet she perfectly captured the essence of the late jazz lady with the sexy voice.” (Backstage)

“A thrilling evening Originally written and produced by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller in 1975, the album takes on a new, vibrant life through Conklin’s combination of jazz and cabaret styles, her appealing, husky voice, and her skills as an actress.” (Cabaret Scenes).

“Our congratulations to Mary Foster Conklin. We think she and her trio are marvelous.” Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller
