Theme: Death & Taxes – Things You Can’t Escape
Co-Host: Andrea AxelrodSALON is an ongoing open entertainment event in which singers, writers and musicians share their talent with each other and audience members. Doors open at 7pm for sign-up. We begin at 7:30, take a 15-minute break around 9pm and end at 10:30. If you would like to sign up to perform, see one the evening’s ‘Mamettes’ to fill out a card with your name, the name of your song, whether or not Mark will be playing for you and any upcoming events you’d like to promote. We do not present performers in order of sign-up, however, indicating requests as clearly and as early as possible as far as time restraints are concerned always makes everything much more possible. ALWAYS BRING SEVERAL SONG SELECTIONS to avoid duplication. All types of material, on or off theme are always welcome at Salon. We enthusiastically welcome instrumentalists, poets, playwrights, essayists, comics, illusionists and performance artists. Please limit your selections to three or four minutes in length (including patter). Please also bring clear, complete charts for Mark to read. Flash photography is not allowed. Please turn off all noise making devices and give performers your undivided attention.
$10.00 cover charge (cash at the door) and a $15 food/beverage minimum (cash or credit).Videography available for an additional fee.

Monday, April 15 at 7pmThe Broadway at Birdland concert series is pleased to announce that hostess/producer Jamie deRoy will be bringing her multi-MAC Award-winning Variety Show, Jamie deRoy & friends, back to Birdland on Monday, April 15 at 7pm. Proceeds from the evening will benefit The Actors Fund: Jamie deRoy & friends Cabaret Initiative.
Special guests at Jamie deRoy & friends will be Christina Bianco, Mike Birbiglia (The New One), E. Clayton Cornelious (Ain’t Too Proud), John Pizzarelli & Jessica Molaskey and Haley Swindal (Chicago, Jekyll and Hyde). The show will be directed by Barry Kleinbort, and musical directed by Ron Abel.
This colorful cabaret series has been thrilling New York City audiences for the past 25 years and serves as the basis for deRoy’s award-winning cable television show which spotlights well-known entertainers and newcomers that are lighting up the marquees of cabaret, theater, music and comedy. Jamie deRoy has won three Tony Awards, eight MAC Awards, four Back Stage Bistro Awards and ten Telly Awards for her extensive work on both stage and screen. She has appeared onstage with Joan Rivers and has headlined at many of New York’s major clubs. She has produced nine CDs in the Jamie deRoy & friends series, all of which are available on Harbinger and PS Classics labels.

Sharon McNight Red Hot Mama: The Sophie Tucker Songbook
254 W 54th St, New York, NY 10019Red Hot Mama: The Sophie Tucker Story is the story of the first lady of show business, the “Last of the Red Hot Mamas,” whose remarkable career spanned sixty years. It contains the music and history of burlesque, vaudeville, Broadway, and Las Vegas in a critically acclaimed one-woman musical biography of the entertainment legend, written by and starring Sharon McNight, and featuring over two dozen songs made famous by Tucker, including composers Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, George and Ira Gershwin, Henderson, DeSylva, & Brown, and her 1928 million record seller, Jack Yellen’s “My Yiddishe Mama.”
Sharon McNight made her Broadway debut in 1989 in Starmites, creating the role of Diva. She received a Tony Award nomination for her performance and is the recipient of the coveted Theatre World Award for Outstanding Broadway Debut as well. She has six solo recordings to her credit, and has played from the Moose Hall to Carnegie Hall, from Los Angeles to Berlin. She has won six San Francisco Cabaret Gold Awards, a MAC Award, a Bistro Award, and a New York Nightlife Award.
